Additional information
Tekotomu is the third graphic novel by Korolainen, which concerns borders and border studies related topics. The novel was made in a project that combines research and art: Borderscapes within Folklore: An Interdisciplinary and Artmaking Viewpoint on Borders in Folklore Materials (funded by the Kone Foundation, 2022–2025). The project illuminates how borders link to normative negotiation and social experimentation for instance in that cultural ideas, identities and order are not only created and negotiated, but also challenged, dismantled and resisted at borders and with borders. Hence, besides the movement in-between, also the state of being in-between is crucial. This is also what Tekotomu graphic novel is about.
