Self-archiving:

University of Eastern Finland uses a prior licence model for research publication manuscripts (applies to manuscripts submitted to the publication channel after 1 January 2026, the older drafts will be stored in accordance with the previous self-archiving routine). If your article has been published behind a paywall in a subscription journal, choose “I wish to self-archive my publication” and attach the accepted manuscript version below. The accepted manuscript is the final peer-reviewed pre-publication version of your article that does not have the publisher’s finalised layout. Accepted manuscripts are immediately made available openly in the university’s eRepo publication archive. By default, a Creative Commons CC-BY licence is used when the article is published by an international publisher, and whenever the funder requires CC-BY to be used. Other articles published by Finnish publishers are archived as In Copyright.

If you wish to use a CC license other than CC-BY, you can do so by adding the desired license in the "Librarian comments” field in CRIS. You can opt out of the prior licence model by contacting erepo@uef.fi and stating the reasons for doing so. When opting out, self-archiving is carried out under the publisher’s restrictions and embargo.

The final published versions of Open Access articles are automatically archived by the library. Along with peer-reviewed articles, other types of publications are also archived if the terms of use are clear (e.g. the work is licensed under a CC licence, or the publisher has given permission for self-archiving). If the article has already been entered into UEF CRIS or you wish to archive it later, you can do so by sending the file along with all other relevant information (such as the chosen licence), to erepo@uef.fi.
